Nightguards
Many patients come to us because they have been told in the past that they clench and grind their teeth at night. Some patients even have issues with their jaw joints clicking or popping. Clenching and grinding your teeth, known as bruxism, can lead to chipped or fractured teeth, sensitivity, or TMJ issues if untreated. During examinations, we are able to evaluate your teeth to check for the beginning signs of bruxism.
Custom-fitted nightguards are recommended for patients with clenching/bruxism habits or patients with TMJ issues. This is a two-step process in our Sunnyvale office. During the first appointment, we will take an impression of your teeth. You will return to pick up your nightguard a couple weeks later. At this second appointment, we will check your nightguard for proper fitting and review instructions on the usage and care of your nightguard.
